Dean's Seed FundCopyright: Peter Winandy
This funding instrument helped to generate and develop new ideas and approaches in research. Resources from Seed Funds indirectly supported facilities, equipment and infrastructure in the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences.
The essential goal of the Dean's Seed Fund is to finance innovative research projects in the start-up phase before they can apply for and receive external funding.
Seed fund grants are awarded on a competitive basis. They are especially geared at strengthening the core competencies of the University. The instrument supports new topical research projects which have the potential to develop into future key research areas.
The Dean's Seed Fund is still in place, now as a “Seed and Infrastructural Fund“, and financed by the Faculty. Calls for applications are made within the Faculty once a year.
According to the RWTH allocation model, 30 percent of Institutional Strategy funding was reserved for projects with female researchers.
