On 13th of March 2019 Professor Matthias Wessling received the Leibnizpreis. As one of the world's leading scientists in the field of membrane technology and polymer research, he hopes to fundamentally revolutionize the development of membranes.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Wessling, participating professor at FSC, is regarded as one of the world's leading scientists in the field of membrane technology and polymer research. On March 13, 2019, he received the most important and best endowed German science prize for his work, the Leipniz Prize. Wessling plans to use the prize money to copy biological functions such as those found in the neurones of the brain. One day, synthetic membranes of industrial applications will be combined with the diversity of biological membranes. Wessling hopes to revolutionize the development of membranes. He likes to discuss his ideas with people from other disciplines. From 27th to 29th of May 2019, he will be hosting the Aachen Membrane Course for Water Technologies (MCW), which is open to experts from different backgrounds and does not require any previous knowledge of membrane technology. Technologies such as micro-, ultra- and nanofiltration (MF, UF & NF) as well as reverse osmosis (RO) will be covered.
