Research Project iNEW: CO2 as Future Raw Material
The research project “Incubator for Sustainable Electrochemical Value Creation” (iNEW) deals amongst others with the question “How can the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2) be used industrially and made into an asset within the process of structural change in the Rhineland region?” The project aims to be an incubator for sustainable electrochemical value creation.
The cooperation project between FZ Jülich and RWTH Aachen University will focus on „Power-to-X“ technologies, offering an open innovation platform to enable new techno-logies to find their way quickly into application.
The scientific basis for iNEW comes from two national lighthouse projects: the Kopernikus project “P2X - Research, Validation and Implementation of Power-To-X Concepts” and the Cluster of Excellence The Fuel Science Center. Both projects investigate how renewable energy can be converted into various forms of energy storage and valuable raw materials.
The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is promoting the research project, set to run for two years, with over 20 million euros within the scope of the Federal Government’s immediate action programme for structural change.
